Teaching
MSc degree in Philosophy of Mathematics Education (Marlboro College, USA, 1989) and more than 35 years of experience of teaching at many different levels, in many different formats, and to students with quite a range of cultural backgrounds. Some of my courses are on YouTube and have received thousands of views, and many positive reviews, see for example these courses from 2013 or 2014. In the last few years my teaching has moved towards a flipped classroom or “socratic” approach, consisting of a reduced number of traditional lectures in favour of developing the material through exercises, team work, and student presentations. I am in the process of publishing a textbook based on this approach. More details about my teaching philosophy and experience in my Teaching Statement.
Foundation Courses
For 10 years I taught several basic college courses, including to non-mathematics majors.
Foundation Mathematics, Uni. of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, 2000
College Algebra, Precalculus, Marlboro College, VT, USA. 1998-1990
Maths 1 for Aeronautical Engineering (1st Year), Imperial College London, 2001-2009

Advanced Courses
Most of my teaching has been focussed on advanced undergraduate/MSc/PhD courses on topics related to my own area of research. Feedback from students has been consistently positive and most of my MSc and PhD students have developed an interest in the subject through these courses.
Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems, ICTP & SISSA, 2009-present
Probabilistic Methods in Dynamics (4th Year/Msc), Imperial College London, 2001-2009
Introduction to Chaos (3rd/4th Year) Imperial College London, 2001-2005
Non-Hyperbolic Dynamics (4th Year/MSc) Warwick University, 1995-1999
Hyperbolic Dynamics (3rd/4th Year/MSc) Warwick University, 1998
Introduction to Dynamical Systems (3rd Year/MSc) Warwick University, 1997
Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations (3rdYear) Warwick University, 1996
