DescriptionNumerical computations have always played an important role in the development of the theory of Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems, more and more so as the availability and power of computer has increased dramatically over the last few decades. At the same time, the limitations of computer-assisted numerical calculations have also become increasingly apparent. Notwithstanding their enormous power, the intrinsic finite resolution of computers can lead to significant errors, especially as a result of a large number of calculations through which small errors can accumulate.

An important and growing approach to certain mathematical problems consists of developing rigorous numerical techniques in combination with more classical analytic methods in order to obtain rigorous qualitative and quantitative results. In some cases this leads to the proof of deep mathematical theorems and in other cases to quantitative, and thus more concrete and applicable, versions of abstract existence results.

This workshop will bring together experts in Dynamical Systems and experts in the theory of Computability to exchange ideas and results, and promote collaborations in view of significant developments in the field over the next few years.

The workshop will include four main streams of research:

• Approximation of Dynamical Quantities
• Regular and Stochastic Properties
• Renormalization
• Computability in Dynamics

Positions are filled on a competitive basis via a "Concurso" process, consisting of CV analysis (weigth 3), research project viva (weigth 3), practical teaching test (weight 2) and a written test based on standard graduate material (weight 1). All exams and documents can be presented in English.

the exams to take place by March 2015, and the selected candidate will begin their activities by August 2015. Teaching duties are three 60-hour courses per year at undergraduate or graduate level, and graduate courses can be taught in English. ICTP's Mathematics section has announced an opportunity for a research scientist. The incumbent will initiate, develop and coordinate competitive research and training programmes in a branch of pure or applied Mathematics, preferably one that complements fields currently covered at ICTP. Essential responsibilities include:

• To undertake front-line research in a branch of pure or applied Mathematics, preferably one that complements fields currently covered at ICTP, including partial differential equations, numerical analysis and probability. To suggest, develop and help realize projects related to his/her field, with particular emphasis on visitors from developing countries. To establish wide cooperation with scientists from developing countries, to identify the scientific needs of developing countries in his/her field of expertise and to formulate the appropriate recommendations for incorporation within ICTP's programmes. To act as a liaison between the Mathematics group and other groups around the world, where front-line research is conducted in his/her areas of expertise. To report on results of the research at major international meetings.
• To lecture in the Mathematics Diploma and other programmes, to supervise Diploma theses and to participate in joint PhD programmes with Italian institutions.
• To assist the Supervisor in reviewing applications and make selection of post-doctoral fellows, visitors and associates. To assist visitors during their stay in the Centre.
• To assist the Supervisor in the organization of ICTP scientific meetings as well as training programmes (schools, lecture courses) in the field of his/her competence.

Mathematics Postdoctoral Positions at ICTP 2015Postdoctoral fellowships for outstanding young mathematicians

Postdoctoral Fellowships are intended for young mathematicians with a strong research record. Fellows must have completed a PhD in mathematics prior to the start of their Fellowship.  The Fellowship will start in September, 2015 and end on August 31, 2016 but may be renewed and extended until August 31, 2017.

In addition, candidates can choose to be considered for a multi-year Shiing-Shen Chern Senior Post-Doctoral Fellowship.

Preference will be given to candidates who: 1) will benefit most from the time spent at ICTP in pursuit of their own research, using the ICTP facilities and participating in ICTP activities and 2) will interact with local scientists and visitors and will contribute to the intellectual vitality of the Centre.

Candidates should apply using the ICTP online application system. They are required to arrange for the submission of three letters of recommendation by established researchers (instructions for submission of letters of recommendation will be provided after submission of the online application). Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Description
The Scuola Normale Superiore announces a selection, based on work to date, for n° 3 post-doc research positions named “Junior Visiting Positions”. The positions will concern the following subject matters:
- Position n. 1: Algebra and Geometry;
- Position n. 2: Mathematical Analysis and Probability;
- Position n. 3: Dynamical Systems and Information Theory, as part of the research project “Dynamics and Information Theory Research Institute” (Convenzione 2014 Scuola-Unicredit S.p.a.).

Duration of contracts: 2 years for each contract. 

Gross compensation, inclusive of all taxes: € 65.160,04 for each contract

Requisites
Applications are invited from candidates who have completed a PhD  in the subject area of Mathematics or who will complete it  by the effective date of the contract or, in any case, by October 1st 2015.

Additional competence relevant for the selection of the researcher: knowledge of English language.
